Super League giants Nyasa Big Bullets were the busiest club on transfer deadline day on Friday after roping three players including Ireland-based striker Andy Kamlete.

The other players, striker Dave Banda and Yizo-Yizo Warriors midfielder Chimwemwe Idana, completed the former Super League champions transfer window shopping.

To join Bullets in May: Kamlete

Confirming the transfers, Bullets general secretary Albert Chimgoga also said they have released five players Luka Milanzi and Dave Ng’ambi who have joined Masters Security on one year loan deals. Goalkeeper Chimwemwe Kumkwawa has permanently joined Mzuni in a swap deal with fellow goalie Labson Chienda.

Midfielder Jeresi Lufeyo will leave the People’s Team for a year-long loan at PremierBet Wizards, Chimgoga said, adding that midfielder Nickson Nyasulu has also been released.

Chimgoga described the transfer as successful saying most of the players they have signed are young and will energise the squad.

“We have signed the players we targeted and we are pleased with how the transfer market has gone. We are ready for the new season,” he said.

On how they spotted Kamlete, who played for Southern Region Premier League side Greek Hawks before going to the UK, Chimgoga said they assessed him through video clips.

“He is a talented player, who is currently playing for one of the leagues in Ireland. Currently, he has other commitments so he will join us in May,” he said.

On his part, Wizards owner Peter Mponda hoped that midfielder Lufeyo will bring experience to his team which usually comprises youthful players.

“He is such a great midfielder who, I believe, will help us a lot. Though the transfer process has not yet been completed as FAM has not yet cleared him, we are optimistic he will join us,” he said of the player who spent last season at Civo United on loan.

The highlights of the transfer period were Silver Strikers former captain Lucky Malata and Azam Tigers midfielder Yamikani Chester joining Be Forward Wanderers.

Analysing the transfer market, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) general secretary Williams Banda said there have been more players joining elite league clubs from lower divisions.

“We haven’t consolidated the figures, but from the look of things, there have been many transfer deals from regional leagues to Super League clubs.

I don’t know if this is a sign of lack of funds among top clubs or they have just changed focus by seeing a future in young players,” he said.
